Weekend Qur’an and Islamic Studies
Course Information :
- Days: Saturday and Sunday
- Time: 9:30pm to 12:30pm
- Estimated commitment of study: 10 Hours per week
Qur’an Reading, Tajweed, Arabic writing & reading, and Memorising Duas & Surahs
The curriculum consists of nine levels catering for all ages and abilities. All students will be assessed during registration to be assigned to the best suited level. Students with previous studies will be taken into consideration before a level is assigned.
The Foundation Level is designed for children under the age of 6 years old who are not able to read. Children will begin exploring the Arabic alphabet through phonetic sounds. children will become accustomed to the formation of every letter and their correct pronunciations; which is essential for reading with fluency.
Alongside learning to read, children will be memorising short Surahs, with careful monitoring on the correct pronunciation and application of the rules.
Children will learn Kalimahs, essential daily duas and fundamental Islamic beliefs. They will learn about prophets and Sahaba (companions), as well as how to write individual Arabic letters.
Level 1 is for children above the age of six who are unable to read. Children will start learning from Ahsan Al Qawaid or Al Qā’idah Al Nūraniyyah which is a specialised Qā’idah used throughout the Middle East. It incorporates learning Makhārij (correct pronunciation) and rulings in a unique repetitive rhythm enabling children to learn quickly. For homework, children will be required to practise from the app of Al-Qā’idah Al Nūraniyyah.
- Islamic studies: Kalimah Tayyibah, Kalimah Shahaadah
- Arabic: how to write joined Arabic letters
- Duas: Ta’wwuz and Tasmiah, before eating, after eating, after forgetting the dua of eating, after drinking milk, before going to sleep, on waking up, entering the toilet, after leaving the toilet and sneezing.
- Surah Memorisation: Surah Al-Fatiha, Surah An Naas, Surah Al Falaq, Surah Ikhlas, Surah Al Lahab, Surah Nasr and Surah Kafirun.
Level 2 is for students who are familiar with the Arabic alphabet but need more practice in improving their fluency of reading. Students will focus on applying the rules of Tajweed that are essential to reading accurately without digging into the fine details of the rules. Students will:
- Improve letter recognition
- Understand the functions of the short vowels
- Understand the functions of the Tanween
- Understand the function of the Sukoon
- Understand the function of the Shad-dah
- Practise joining letters and reading words
- Use listening skills to imitate different sounds such as nasal sounds and lengthening
By the end of this level, students should feel confident to start reading Juz Amma. - Islamic Studies: TBC/ Kalimah Tamjeed and Kalimah Tawheed
- Arabic: TBC/ Writing Arabic words
- Surahs: Surah Al Ma’un, Surah Quraish, Surah Al feel, Surah Al Humazah, Surah Al Asr.
- Duas: For the increase of knowledge, Tasbeehs of Ruku’ and Sujiood, When boarding a car or vehicle, when entering the house, when leaving the house, when entering the masjid and when leaving the masjid, Thana and Tashahhud.
- Stories: TBC
Students who are able to read fluently can join Foundation Level 3. In this level, students will begin the journey of learning the rules of Tajweed in a detailed manner. Students will learn about:
- Al Isti’adha & Al Basmalah
- The rules of Nun Sakinah and Tanwin
- The heavy and light letters
- The general rules of Ra’
- The rule of Lam in the name of Allah
At the end of this level, students will complete reading half of Juz Amma.
- Islamic Studies: children will be taught from the book Learn Islam and they will learn about Islam, the holy prophet, the holy Qur’an, worship & salah, Azaan, Masjid, method of performing Salah, Islamic manners and Hadith.
- Arabic: Arabic for children
- Stories: TBC
- Surahs: Surah At Takaathur, Surah Al Qariyah. Surah Al-Aadiyaat, Surah Az-Zilzaal.
- Duas: When Wearing clothes, when looking in the mirror, before and after Wudhu, Durood e Ibrahim and Final Dua in Salah.
Students who have completed Foundation Level 3 or equivalent can join Foundation Level 4. In this level, students will continue to learn the rules of Tajweed in a detailed manner. Students will learn about:
- The rules of Meem Sakinah
- The rules of Ra’ in detail
- The types of stopping
- The rules of Qalqalah in detail
- At the end of this level, students will complete reading the whole Juz Amma
- Islamic Studies: Learn Islam, Book 2
- Arabic: Arabic for children, Book 2
- Story: TBC
- Duas: At the time of rainfall, on seeing the new moon, when breaking fast, After Azaan, Seeing someone in distress, Safety from calamities, Ayatul Kursi and Du’a of Qunoot.
- Surah: Surah Al Bayyinah, Surah Al Qadr, Surah Al Alaq, Surah At Teen, Surah -Ash Sharh, Surah Ad-Duha.
- Hadith
Students who have completed Level 4 or equivalent can join Qur’an Level 5. In this level, students will continue to learn the rules of Tajweed in a detailed manner. Students will learn about:
- Madd Asli
- Madd Far’ee
- The Opening Letters (Huroofe Muqatta’at)
At the end of this level, students will complete reading Juz 25 to 29.
- Islamic Studies: Learn Islam Book 3
- Arabic: Durusul Arabiyya
- Seerah
- Duas: After a gathering, Bidding farewell, On feeling pain, When visiting a sick person.
- Surah: Surah AL Layl, Surah As Shams, Surah Al Balad, Surah Al Fajr, Surah Al Ghashiah Surah Al A’laa.
- Hadith: Learn Hadith
Students who have completed Level 5 or equivalent can join Qur’an Level 6. In this level, students will continue to learn the rules of Tajweed in a detailed manner. Students will learn about:
- Makharij of Letters
- Sifaat of Arabic letters
At the end of this level, students will complete reading Juz 1 to 6.
- Islamic Studies: Learn Islam, Book 4
- Arabic: Madina Arabic Book Reader, Book 1
- Seerah: TBC
- Duas: On entering the cemetry, Janaazah Dua for an Adult, Janaazah Dua for Boy/Girl, Sayyid al Istighfar and Dua of Istikhara.
- Surah: Surah At-Taariq, Surah Al Buruj, Surah Al Inshiqaaq.
Students who have completed Level 6 or equivalent can join Qur’an Level 7. In this level, students will continue to learn the rules of Tajweed in a detailed manner. Students will learn about:
- Imalah
- Miscellaneous
At the end of this level, students will complete reading Juz- 7 to 12.
- Islamic Studies: Essential Islamic knowledge, Part 1
- Madina Arabic Book reader book 1, Part 2
- Seerah: Stories of the prophet
- Surah: Surah Al Mutaf-fifeen, Surah Al Infitaar, Surah At Takweer.
- Hadith: 40 hadith-1 to 15.
- Quran Translation: Surah Fatihah & the last 10 Surahs
Students who have completed Level 7 or equivalent can join Qur’an Level 8. In this level, students will continue to learn the rules of Tajweed in a detailed manner. Students will learn about:
- Revision of previous rules
At the end of this level, students will complete reading Juz 13 to 18
- Islamic Studies: Essential Islamic knowledge, Part 2
- Madina Arabic Book reader 2, Part 1.
- Seerah: Muhammad the last prophet, Part 1
- Surah: Surah Abasa, Surah An Naaziat and Surah An Naba
- Hadith: 40 hadith-16 to 30
- Quran Translation: Selected Ayat
Students who have completed Level 8 or equivalent can join Qur’an Level 9. In this level, students will continue to learn the rules of Tajweed in a detailed manner. Students will learn about:
- Revision of previous rules
At the end of this level, students will complete reading Juz 19 to 24
- Islamic Studies: TBC (Al-Hadiyyatul ‘Alaayihhah)

- Seerah: Muhammad the last prophet, Part 2.
